Kia ora koutou katoa.
Following up on years of requests for support from the non-youth Rainbow community and after initial community consultation, we have decided to increase the scope of Waikato Queer Youth to work with people of all ages.
Earlier this year, our Board of Trustees asked us to survey our population in the Waikato to get a sense of what services Rainbow folk would like to be able to access from us. The results of this organisational ‘refresh’ survey confirm the intuitive sense we had from the requests we have been receiving.
Over the years, as our organisation has grown, the name Waikato Queer Youth has been stretched to fit all the parts of what we do. We recognise the huge contributions rangatahi bring to our organisation and to our community, and feel it is past time for our youth group to have its name back.
We are very excited to announce that in moving to become an all-ages supporting organisation, we have rebranded and from this point forward, will be known as Rainbow Hub Waikato.
This encompasses and recognises all the work we have been doing in different parts of the community, while paving the way for new prospects and projects.
As well as changing our name, we are moving to a new space where we will be able to continue curating safe spaces for a greater number of our community and evolve how we engage with the community including expanded drop-in hours and increased facilities!
As a team of volunteers, employees, and Board of Trustees, we are very excited about what these changes will bring to our community and the possibilities that lie before us.
